One day when I am fully retired from all of my 'little jobs' I would very much like to incorporate Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest at the Jackson County Library. Also Animoto, can not forget that one either!!
Weekly and daily interaction is a must when using all of those in the public. Keeping it up-to-date is so important! Our director has given me the go ahead it I am interested in doing so but time is of the essence. So we will leave it alone but I will continue to help people become familiar with their own accounts and guide them on in their process and use. Facebook questions are the most common and I have been helping others with Goodreads.
We revised our policies at our library recently but a social media policy is needed. Another reasons to wait on setting up a Facebook or Instagram acct for our library.

Listened to the Instagram class. I already am hooked! I have been listening to "young ones" lately that are into 'snap chat' I have not investigated that one but applied the Instagram app on my IPhone! Going to be FUN! Fun like the animotos we did in June! Now I really do need another day in the week.
I looked at several Instagram sites. oed.org/librarian/10-interesting-ways-to-use-instagram-for-you Simply listed 10 ways to use Instagram for your library. From introducing staff, introducing new books, showing off library spaces, behind the scenes of libraryprocedures, etc.
So far I can see where Instagram will reach the younger crowd and have more interaction...
statigr.am/tag/libraries talked just about that subject on reaching more of the younger people.
The Mobile Librarian (themobilelibrian.wordpress.com/2013.09/07/instagram) talked about how they use Instagram in aiding students by teaching with it! Did not think about that, interesting. With Instagram they felt they have the most interaction.

I love Pinterest! I have been "playing" with this site now for all most a year. I held back because my friends warned me that "It is very, very addictive " This is very, very true!!
I do have followers and I am thinking it will be effective to add library interests to my account! This would work for me as I do not work daily at our community's library.
I agree with @Ann that it will be affective and will build confidence in my social networking.
Two of the library boards I studied were: www.pinterest.com/sotomorrow/library-bullentin-boards-displays/
And www.pinterest.com/LibraryBoards/
Some very,very fun stuff:)

Listened to the webinar that was recorded on 11/14 Facebook
I've had a FB acct for 4 years approx. Love it. Keep up with family & friends day to day. I can be in their lives but still I am not really with them. Fills my needs pretty much.
I have thought about a FB acct for our little library, in our little town but...
Like Kathleen said "unless you can keep it up-to-date it is not very useful"
Plus it is a commitment. Also I believe our emails to the "Friends group" is our best tool right now.
However, I'd LOVE to be able to have the commitment of time to put JC Library on Facebook. I see where I could notify patrons about up coming events! Get feed back daily from patrons on all areas of the library. Keep the days and hours of operation of the JC Library posted . Give our patrons access to books by book trailers, pictures and brief descriptions of books & magazines. List our wishes on the page as in volunteers, furniture, instructors in classes, etc
Most of all it would be a great support system with other libraries to friend them!!
